About 5% Equities

Music is a universal language, one of the few that withstands the test of time and contributes to bringing people together. At Five Percent Equities, we believe that the power of music can be positively transformative and life changing. Our goal is to invest in music-related businesses that perpetuate this natural force. With our extensive network, and more than 20 years of experience operating successful businesses, we weigh both strong financial returns and contribution to doing right as we strive to make this world a better place for everyone. Whether it’s the pursuit of social justice, the capital a truly good-natured startup needs, or just putting our own capital behind the music, artists, and industries we love, Five Percent Equities is committed to changing the world, one investment at a time.

Five Percent’s holdings began with Cash or Trade, a face-value ticket network, and continued to grow with an investment in Recovery Unplugged, a drug and alcohol rehab company using music as the catalyst of its treatment programs. The next company CARMA, partnered in 2019, stands for Collaborative Addiction Recovery Management and Assistance, and assists patients in all facets of medical care to continue their new journey in recovery. Investments paused in 2020, as Mark focused on family, but in mid-2022, after Sherwood Equities sold its Long Island Portfolio, Mark branded and began solely focusing on Five Percent Equities. The company took a position in a music venture conglomerate that includes ownership of Nectar’s in Vermont and the Nectar’s Presents name. Continuing to support and invest in the world of Recovery, Mark acquired a position in Good Thoughts, a HIPPA compliant VR solution for both recovery and mental health. The summer of 2024 saw the addition of House Studios, a media platform aiming to unite creators, content and causes in this ever changing world in which we live in, and most recently, closed a position in Krateo.AI with Ocean Street Partners.

About Mark

Mark Roth is the principal and founder of Five Percent Equities. Mark was born in New York City the same day the Grateful Dead played their first show at Madison Square Garden and spent his childhood years in South Florida. Mark is a graduate of Emory University Goizueta Business School where he received a bachelor’s degree with focuses on Marketing, Consulting, and Operations Management. He received a master’s degree from the Schack Institute of Real Estate at New York University in 2003.

The idea for Five Percent Equities was born in 2018 when Mark made his first small venture-capital investment. In 2023, Sherwood Equities sold its Long Island Portfolio and Mark now focuses full-time on expanding the Five Percent Equities portfolio, with its unique focus on monetizing and furthering the power of music. Prior to forming Five Percent Equities, Mark was a Vice President of Sherwood Equities, Inc, a family-owned commercial real estate management and development firm. He initially joined the company in 2002 as an asset and property manager. Wanting more of the suburban setting he was raised in; Mark moved his family to Long Island and took over management of Sherwood’s 400,000 square foot industrial portfolio on Long Island for the next decade and a half. Mark was responsible for the portfolio’s financial management and daily business operations. As a “side project”, Mark has also traded properties in the East End of Long Island. In 2024, Mark was invited to join Wall Street Dead aHead and now has several great deals in the pipeline, that we hope you will come back to read about in the near future.
